Welcome!
The laboratory of Ecology and
Biotechnology of Yeast at the Federal University of Minas Gerais is led
by Professor Carlos
Augusto Rosa.
He guides Scientific Iniciation students, Master
students, PhD students and Postdoc students in Microbiology. The
principal research interests of this Laboratory focus on Food
Microbiology,
Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology. For example:
- Yeast biodiversity in tropical ecosystems;
- Bioprospection and production of antimicrobial compounds by microorganism;
- Biotechnology of the fermentations;
- Yeast capable of fermenting lignocellulosic residues;
- Microorganism diversity in aquatic environments;
- Enzyme production by yeast;
- New species description.
The laboratory also maintains the cell and culture collection of the UFMG.
Extension projects are conducted, like the bacteriological water analysis, and the production of special Saccharomyces
cerevisiae ferment for the fabrication of artesanal cachaça.
The laboratory is located in the Institute of Biological Sciences -ICB block J4, room 249- of the UFMG, Campus Pampulha, Belo
